  6. quotes that tell us what the penalties are:
  7. ‘I pardon thee thy lack before thou ask it, For hath thy w------, it
  8. is Antonio, the other hath comes to the grateful state’ (Black Pg. 169, Blue Pg.97)
  9. Are the penalties fair? Why/why not.
no, because if a bond says you have to give a pound of flesh straight

Antonio is still living and won't die and they were allowed to look after the house
  12. What reward has Portia claimed and why is this significant?
Portia has claimed all of of
Portia tells Shylock ‘The quality of mercy is not strained’. How does she try to persuade Shylock to show mercy, how much mercy is she willing to show him ((Black Pg. 157-159, Blue Pg.91-92) )she shows him no mercy and makes him change his RELIGION (in my mind that is ILLEGAL and should make Antonio be punished [my thoughts only])

Act Four, Scene Two

  1. What invitation does Portia refuse and why?
she refuses to see shylocks house so she can quickly back home and change
  1. What does Nerissa plan to get, why do you think this is important? she plans to get her husbands ring and see if her husband actually likes her

  1. Do you admire Portia after these scenes, or do you find her actions cruel? Use examples to support your thinking.
I find Portia's actions cruel even though Antonio does not need to die but at least leave Shylocks house
Yay Last scene:
Act Five, Scene One
  1. Why do Lorenzo and Jessica remind each of the stories of classical lovers?  (Black Pg. 183-185, p.182 gives specific examples, Blue Pg.107-108)  because its classical and they are lovers xD and there are always things trying to brake them both up
  2. What are Portia's feelings as she approaches the house?  (Black Pg. 189, Blue Pg.105) worried and aggravating.
  3. What is the first argument to break out? ‘’By years moon I see you do me wring, In fright, I gave it to the justice clerk’ (Black Pg. 193, Blue Pg.107)
  4. How do Gratiano and Bassanio try to justify parting with the rings, are they successful?  (Black Pg. 193-197, Blue Pg.108-110)
they try to say their loved ones would absolutely hate them
  5. Was Bassanio right to give away the ring, give reasons for your thinking? nope he should have kept them with him no matter what Antonio or Portia (doctor) the boys are really stuped and don't know who is who
  6. Complete this quote to show the effect these arguments have on Antonio?  ‘I once did love my Bassanio for his wors, … I dare be beautiful again, my safety upon the freakish that your love will never more beautifully free advisedly’ (Black Pg. 199, Blue Pg 111
